shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.

  1. That is a favorite and unfailing promise I cling to every day… thanks, Sylvia! (We are neighbors at Sandy’s today… 🙂

    1. Pam, what a good verse promise to cling to every day! A good one to add to *my* dailies…

  2. We don’t often think about shadow as a safe place, but when that shadow is the one under the hand of God, well, that’s a different thing entirely.

    1. You’re right, JoAnne. I too associate clouds mostly with negatives, but think how God dwells in light too great for mortal eye, so “clouds… surround[ing] Him” safeguard us, and how Ps 121 calls Him a shield from sun’s harm. Such “shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land” gives cooling refreshment that scorched-desert dwellers must appreciate far more than we in climates with cloud cover sometimes greater than we’d like!

  3. Oh Sylvie, if you had included this for no other person, you did for me today. God has taken me on a difficult journey for the past month, but with this promise of Ps. 91 at the fore of my heart and mind. And he has answered my prayers for healing, as I have rested safely, tucked under the shelter of His mighty wings! Thank you for sharing.

    1. Lynn, I almost didn’t post this, it seemed so little! Must have been a God-nudge that pushed me into it, because this sure sounds like a “God-incidence”! Praise God for your healing and safe rest! Prayers for a continuation of the same.

  4. I spent enough years running ahead of myself that now when I do it, I can almost see myself running out ahead of the protective hand and shadow of my Father…. I love that verse and have prayed for my family and myself to dwell in His shadow and protection.

    1. “Running ahead of myself…” Yep, Floyd–and Dawn–I know what you mean! I used to think I was pretty circumspect, guarding against jumping ahead of God, diving in without due thought, but in retrospect I’m stunned to see how often that hasn’t been the case at all! Precious verse indeed to pray, and abide in!

    1. So glad, Sheila, to be unknowingly used by God for your need! He does this so much it makes my eyes tear!

  5. I’m actually starting to realize this verse in my life. He works so very much better in my stillness. I thought too much of what I did and not nearly enough about who He is. I echo Floyd here when he says he spent so much of his life running ahead of himself, ahead of the protective hand of the Father. I love that I spend much more time in Father’s hand and know that He holds me and cups me close. It is much better this way. Dawn

    1. Ah, yes, Dawn. Me too: How much better He works in and through my stillness. I once read a study on modern false “religions.” The one I identified as my own was “activism,” with its core lie being “I am what I do.” 🙁 I still catch myself straying off toward it. How much better to be cupped in His hand, so close. Both Immanuel, God-with-us/me, and me-with-God as well! Then what He really wants done gets done anyhow! Blessings!

    1. I keep loving this verse more and more, Lyli–and yes, the whole Psalm 91 = wonderful! Thanks for stopping round and commenting.

  6. I just looked again at this… what a powerful photo image, Sylvia!

Yes… all of Ps 91 is a bedrock!

  7. Pam, that photo must be a “God thing,” because when I went to post the verse I had no idea what I could find to illustrate it. I found this almost instantly in my archives. Don’t even remember when I took it.

And amen, that whole Psalm IS a bedrock. I think I’ll read through it again right now before I go to bed. 🙂

  8. I LOVE that verse, and the pictures I always see in my mind… and love the photo you placed that mixes them together beautifully.

    Thanks.
